BIIF CROSS COUNTRY RULES (2024 - 25)
1. National Federation (NFHS) rules to be followed except where otherwise indicated.
2. Roster: Schools may bring an unlimited roster to BIIF regular season meets.
The host school may restrict the number of entries for a specific race.
3. Distance: 5K for GIRLS / 5K for BOYS
4. Order of races: Boys and girls will rotate running first each year.
Open races should run before Varsity races.
Order for 2024 will be: Girls / Boys
5. Open Division: Open races may have runners from any grade (9th - 12th).
Any runner who does NOT run in the Open race may run in the Varsity
race for that day. The host school will determine whether or not open
races will be run that day.
6. BIIF Championship Meet:
a. The BIIF will hold ONE varsity boys race and ONE varsity girls race to determine the BIIF Champions.
Division I and Division II scoring will be done separately within each varsity race.
(2024 – DI XC schools: Hilo, Kea’au, Kealakehe, Konawaena, Waiakea)
b. A school may enter a maximum of 7 runners in the Championship Varsity race with the top five (5)
runners scoring for each school.
c. In case of a tie for the Championship, the 6th runner for each school will be used to break the tie. If neither
school involved in the tie has a 6th runner, then the first four (4) runners will be totaled for each school to
break the tie.
d. Individuals must have COMPLETED a minimum of two (2) regular season meets to be eligible for the
BIIF Championship Varsity race. All other runners may run in the Open races on the Championship day.
e. Championship teams (DI & DII) will receive seven (7) BIIF medals.
f. The top-20 individual runners (per varsity race) will receive BIIF medals.
g. Scoring and timing for the BIIF Championship Meet will be done by electronic system
(e.g. Hy-Tek, Timers Plus, etc...). Division I & Division II team results will be scored separately.
h. All runners will be assigned race numbers by BIIF Coordinator and will need to pin race numbers to
FRONT of jersey in four corners. Race numbers will be supplied by BIIF.
7. HHSAA Representation:
a. The 1st and 2nd overall finishing teams in the BIIF Championship meet will qualify for HHSAA.
Each school will be allocated the same number of entries as they ran for the Championship meet (7 max).
b. The top-5 runners for the 3rd and 4th overall finishing teams in the BIIF Championship meet will qualify
for HHSAA. (see exception below)
c. If one of the Division (I or II) champions finishes outside the top-4 overall finishing teams, then that
Champion team will replace the 4th place team and will qualify a maximum of 7 runners.
Both Championship teams will qualify the same # of entries as they ran in Championship meet (7 max).
d. Individuals based upon BIIF Championship meet finish will fill the remaining HHSAA berths.
e. The BIIF Executive Secretary and Coordinator MAY approve up to 3 boys & 3 girls who were unable to
compete in BIIF Championship meet.
f. 2023 HHSAA berths (200 total): Girls = tba / Boys = tba
8. All-League Selections:
a. BIIF 1st Team will be top-7 finishers at BIIF Championship meet.
b. BIIF 2nd Team will be next 7 finishers at BIIF Championship meet.
c. Each coach can nominate up to three additional runners for Honorable Mention recognition.
